About Briza Neighbourhood Watch
Briza Neighbourhood Watch is a volunteer-run community safety organisation serving the Briza estate in Somerset West, Cape Town. We're registering as a non-profit company (NPC) so the community can support us formally, including via donations.
What patrollers do
Volunteer patrollers walk or drive scheduled shifts through Briza, watching for anything out of place — suspicious people or vehicles, signs of attempted break-ins, or other safety concerns. Patrols work in pairs for safety and radio or WhatsApp in anything noteworthy to the group, logging incidents on our map as they happen. Patrols run every evening, with extra coverage during load-shedding when streetlights and security systems are down.
How residents can help
- Report anything suspicious via the incident map, even if minor.
- Keep gates, garages, and boundary walls in good repair.
- Get to know your neighbours and share contact details.
- Join the patrol roster, even for one shift a month.
- Support Briza-resident-owned businesses in our directory.
Safety tips
Be alert to small marks on gates, walls, or postboxes — these are sometimes used by criminals to flag a property as a target (e.g. for being an easy entry point, having valuables, or being unoccupied during the day). If you spot marks like this, photograph them, clean them off, and log an incident report. Stay situationally aware when arriving home at night — have your keys ready before you reach the gate, and don't linger outside.
